Curriculum

Y7

  • Students participate in a range of sports and activities that cover the National Curriculum. This ranges from competitive and traditional games, alternative activities, aesthetic activities such as gymnastics and dance, health and fitness, outdoor and adventurous activities.
  • The focus is for students to develop a deeper understanding of core skills and movements along with tactical appreciation.
  • Throughout the year they will have opportunities to lead, coach, analyse and evaluate in sport to be assessed in our three areas of assessment (Fit to Perform, Fit to Lead and Fit for Life).

Y8

  • Students will have opportunities in some new activities not yet experienced.
  • The focus is for students to apply the skills, movements and tactics developed in Y7 into competition and against opposition.
  • Throughout the year they will have opportunities to lead, coach, analyse and evaluate in sport to be assessed in our three areas of assessment (Fit to Perform, Fit to Lead and Fit for Life).
KS3 PE Lessons

Y9 GCSE PE

  • Students begin with Paper 2 of the AQA GCSE PE. This paper will cover health, fitness and well-being, sports psychology and socio-cultural issues. Within their core PE lessons most GCSE PE students will follow the gifted and talented pathway which will assess them in practical sports for their NEA as well as providing opportunities to develop high performing areas in strength and conditioning, sports psychology and diet and nutrition.

Y9 Sports Studies

  • Students will start their OCR Sport Studies course working on Unit R186 – Sport and the Media. In this unit students will create a case study for a local sports club indicating the different media sources available and how they are used. They will then explore the many advantages and disadvantages of the different media sources and how they impact the local club.

Y9 Core PE

  • Students will follow the National Curriculum and be provided with opportunities to develop skill and tactics in traditional team sports, alternative activities, aesthetic activities, health and fitness and outdoor and adventurous activities. Students will be promoted to be able to analyse and evaluate performance and leadership as well as being encouraged to participate in sport and activity outside of the curriculum.
  • Student will have access to this through one of our pathway choices within KS4 PE:
    • Gifted and Talented Pathway
    • Health and Well-being Pathway
    • Leadership Pathway
    • Competitive Sports / Sport Education Pathway
    • Alternative Games Pathway

Y10 GCSE PE

  • Students will continue their studies with Paper 1 of the AQA GCSE PE. This paper will cover applied anatomy and physiology, physical training, movement analysis and use of data.
  • Within their core PE lessons most GCSE PE students will follow the gifted and talented pathway which will assess them in practical sports for their NEA as well as providing opportunities to develop high performing areas in strength and conditioning, sports psychology and diet and nutrition.

Y10 Sports Studies

  • Students continue their OCR Sport Studies course working on Unit R185 – Performance and Leadership in Sports Activities. In this unit students will be practically assessed in two sports and create a log-book of the skills and tactics they have developed within these. Students will also develop their knowledge and understanding of sports leadership as well as plan, deliver and evaluate their own coaching session.

Y10 Core PE

  • Y10 students will follow the National Curriculum and be provided with opportunities to develop skill and tactics in traditional team sports, alternative activities, aesthetic activities, health and fitness and outdoor and adventurous activities. Students will be promoted to be able to analyse and evaluate performance and leadership as well as being encouraged to participate in sport and activity outside of the curriculum.

Y11 GCSE PE

  • In their final year students will be recapping and revising the theoretical content for Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the AQA GCSE PE. This will enable students to develop their knowledge, understanding and application in preparation for their mock examinations and Summer Exams.
  • Throughout the year students will also complete their Analysis and Evaluation coursework for their NEA. This will involve students analysing their own sports performance and creating action plans to improve.
  • Within their core PE lessons most GCSE PE students will follow the gifted and talented pathway which will assess them in practical sports for their NEA as well as providing opportunities to develop high performing areas in strength and conditioning, sports psychology and diet and nutrition.

Y11 Sports Studies

  • Students continue their OCR Sport Studies course working on Unit R184 – Contemporary Issues in Sport. This is an examined unit where students will develop their knowledge and understanding of barriers to participation, National Governing Bodies, the role of sporting events, technology and performance enhancing drugs. Students will be assessed through a written exam in the Summer of Y11.

Y11 Core PE

  • Y11 students will follow the National Curriculum and be provided with opportunities to develop skill and tactics in traditional team sports, alternative activities, aesthetic activities, health and fitness and outdoor and adventurous activities. Students will be promoted to be able to analyse and evaluate performance and leadership as well as being encouraged to participate in sport and activity outside of the curriculum.
