Supporting Students’ Well-Being and Behaviour

Every student at Bohunt has a dedicated Tutor who is a teaching member of staff and acts as the first point of contact for both student and parent.

We expect students to fully immerse themselves into school life and we understand that at times all students need some additional support to ensure they feel safe, secure and happy in the classroom. That is where the Pastoral and SEND teams step in.

When students join in Year 7 they automatically become part of one of our three houses; Franklin, Mandela and Turing. Each house is overseen by an Head of House and each year has a Pastoral Support Assistant.

Supporting Positive Student Relationships at BSW

At Bohunt School Worthing young people are supported in understanding how to form and maintain healthy peer relationships. We know from experience that from time to time that young people will fall out and here at BSW we have excellent student support on hand to help all students through what can be a challenging time.

A student’s peer group will naturally change over the course of their time in school and a part of the change may be isolated moments of conflict. Whilst unpleasant and upsetting this is not bullying.

Bullying is defined as repeated behaviour that seeks to cause physical and or emotional harm to another person. We do not tolerate bullying.

Students and parents are encouraged to share in confidence if they have concerns that they or someone they know is being bullied. As a school we will always support the student who has been harmed and we also support the bully. We investigate and address any complaint and where necessary apply sanctions to the parties involved. We are also very open to discussing this through with parents. Whilst a sanction may be applied, the bully will also receive a package of support to move on with their thinking and change their future behaviour.  

We are proud that incidences of bullying are rare here at BSW. In our most recent parent survey 98% of parents felt we did a good job in support students who had friendship concerns. That does not mean we are complacent, our pastoral team continues to work proactively to support students from all backgrounds to help them all be able to form safe and respectful relationships. As we know that a child who feels safe and happy, is more likely to thrive in their learning.

Outdoor Wellbeing

Bohunt Education as a Trust firmly believes in the importance of Outdoor Wellbeing.

We are delighted as a school to offer students a wide range of resources which highlight the importance of wellbeing in our approach to outdoor education. The BET Outdoor Wellbeing site focuses on supporting and improving students’ mental health and well-being with challenges and activities galore.
