Curriculum

Y7

• In YR7 students will learn about what Religious Education is, and how it teaches us about the beliefs of the world.
• Students will study two major world religions this year: Sikhism and Christianity.
• They will also look at different Game Changers throughout History and how they have been guided by faith with their actions.

Y8

• Students will begin the year looking at prejudice and discrimination, both religious and of other minority groups.
• They will then study the media, how it shapes our world, how we can judge its reliability and how religion is portrayed within it.
• Finally students will study Judaism.

Y9

• Students start YR9 by studying the Holocaust, and its importance both to the Jewish People, historically and the legacy it has left behind.
• They will continue the year looking at another religion in Hinduism
• Students then finish YR9 studying religious responses to the value of money and poverty, and religion and the law.

Y10

• Students in YR10 first look at crime and punishment, and how religions believe criminals should be treated. They move onto looking at religion, peace and conflict.
• They move from this to study Islamic beliefs and Practices.
• The year finishes with two units on religious philosophy: first, by looking at different viewpoints on the existence of God. Then, by considering alternative religions.

Y11

• Students in YR11 study religion and life, looking at religious responses to euthanasia, abortion and animal testing.
• They then study religious intolerance and persecution throughout History.
• Finally, they look at Civil Rights throughout History and how religion has shaped, or been shaped by, these religions.
