Our Vision

Our goal at Bohunt School Worthing is to embed literacy in all curriculum areas, with the goal of raising literacy attainment at every level of ability. Literacy is a fundamental skill that is important not only for our students’ educational success, but also for personal and social development.

At Bohunt School Worthing, we are committed to ensuring that our students can:

• have the necessary literacy to access the curriculum; 
• be to access knowledge, ideas and skills between subject areas;
• recognise the importance of reading for pleasure; 
• recognise the value of writing;
• communicate effectively, both academically and socially.

We believe literacy is important, as we aim to support our students in becoming socially engaged citizens. Beyond academic success, this means that they can engage with current events, communicate effectively, and have a greater understanding of the issues that are shaping our world.

Learning Resource Centre

Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Bohunt Worthing is a vibrant and welcoming learning space where we encourage all students to explore its diverse and extensive range of books.

The LRC is space for students to read, work and play with specified times for silent reading, homework club and extra-curricular activities such as board game club. It is also home to the digital leaders who can offer technological support to all students.

It often hosts specialist events around World Book Day and sends out a fun and interactive newsletter on a frequent basis to let staff, students and parents know about all the latest books that have arrived or competitions pupils can get involved in.

To reserve books from the LRC please use the button below. Reading Cloud is our Library Management System. Log in to access the catalogue, reserve books and check book stock. If there is a title you would like us to order for you, please ask the librarian.

Reading at Home Support

From September 2021, Lead Practitioner for English, Mr Shoebridge, would like to work with parents and carers of our students to support with getting our more reluctant readers reading at home. We have designed a programme of six videos, each one sharing practical tips and strategies you can use to encourage your young person to read more often and with more enjoyment in their own time.
