Dear Parents and Carers
We bring you a special edition of the BSW Blog to mark our farewell to Mr Whitehead. Ordinarily you would be reading his own words in the intro to our regular blog features, but today we are sharing some of your messages of support of Mr Whitehead as he leaves us to begin his exciting new role as Headteacher at Steyning Grammar School.
Before Mr Whitehead opened Bohunt School Worthing in September 2015, work had already begun on the creation of the site for the new building. The new school began its life as a group of mobile classroom buildings in what is now a car park at the rear of the school. Opening initially to Year 7 and 8, the school was a brand new venture for pupils and parents, with Mr Whitehead thanking them for their ‘leap of faith’ in choosing BSW. In September 2016 the school opened in the brand new building and with another year group of students joining.
The school has since grown to have a full cohort of students, and has continued to go from strength to strength under Mr Whitehead’s leadership. As part of the Bohunt Education Trust, BSW has led with innovations from the 1:1 iPad scheme to being recognised as a Confucius Classroom. Most importantly however, Mr Whitehead has established a school in the community of Worthing that pupils, parents and staff are proud to be a part of. As Mr Whitehead has said, BSW is ”committed to and experienced in developing confident, ambitious and skilled young people who will relish their role in making a positive difference to their communities; whether local, national or global.”
We wish Mr Whitehead all the best in his new role as Headteacher at Steyning Grammar School and we are delighted that he will remain within the Trust as leader of a BET school. We would also like to thank all of our students, staff, parents and carers for supporting Mr Whitehead over the years and helping to make BSW such a great success.
Enjoy
What a journey we have been on starting with us as pioneering parents, you as head of a new school before it even physically existed. From the council meetings we attended trying to get planning permission for the school, to the first intake in the temporary buildings, to today; a thriving, well respected established school. I am so pleased I choose Bohunt Worthing for my children. You definitely rose to the challenge and have been the driving force with establishing the school. I wish you all the best at Steyning. Hopefully the start of your journey there will be more traditional but as equally interesting than the start of your journey at Bohunt Worthing.
Mrs Archer and family.
Thank you for all your hard work, setting up and running a school that is approachable, forward thinking and enjoyable to be part of.
Parents of George (Year 9)

Thank you Mr Whitehead for running a great school, despite a pandemic you kept everything running as smooth as zoom will allow. Finn enjoyed his many trips away and Nellie is soon to enjoy the same. I wish you well in making another school as great as Bohunt.
Parents of Finn (Y11) and Nellie (Y7)

Thank you for making my girl’s first (almost) two years enjoyable. It’s a credit to everyone at Bohunt Worthing that children have been able to enjoy their schooling, in spite of the challenging times. I’m in no doubt the reason for this is that the teachers have taken on the big pressures, protecting our children, and as a parent I’m very grateful for all your efforts.
Parents of Freya (Y8)

Respect
Mr Whitehead believes everything that Bohunt strives for – that every child will leave the school being the best that they can be. Thank you.
Parents of Lewis (Y9)

Wishing you the best of luck and every success. Many thanks for the support you have given to Gio and Lucia.

Your dedication to your work and towards the whole school community has earned you a reputation which is to be emulated. We are remembered by our deeds and you leave in our trust a community which is thriving, happy and productive. Kudos to you.
Parents of Evelyn (Y7)

I will do more than I thought possible because I have you and teachers that push me and believe in me.

Achieve
You have led a progressive school that the pupils clearly love. Your achievements have undoubtedly had a hugely positive impact on the lives of all the children passing through Bohunt during your tenure.
Parents of Tom (Y9)

Mr Whitehead has been a great Head for this school in our opinion. He has managed to maintain an ‘as normal’, and safe an environment as possible for our children throughout this pandemic. I have one child about to finish at Bohunt and one just started – I hope how he has paved the way for the new Head will make my second child’s journey go as smoothly. Thank you!
Parents of Sonny (Y7) and Olive (Y11)

My son had lots of hurdles to overcome when he started at Bohunt but will be leaving this year with confidence, a thirst for learning and proud that he attended this school. A place is only good because of its leadership and I’m sure you will be missed by many.
Parents of Year 11 student

Thanks for all your hard work in getting Bohunt to be the best school for our children & making them the best learners they can be. You will be greatly missed, but we wish you every success in your new post.

Achievements should always be measured against circumstances and opposition. I’ve never known a ‘non-Covid Bohunt’ as my child started during the epidemic, but I’ve always felt confident you’ll achieve what you set out to do. Online lessons and schedules were in place from day one, whilst other schools took months to get things up and running. A big thank you to everyone at Bohunt Worthing and Mr Whitehead.
Parents of Y8 Student

Good luck with the new adventure ahead. Bohunt stands tall and keeps growing because of the guidance you gave, from the very start of the school’s journey.
