Preparations for World Book Day on Thursday 5 March

BSW has been busy preparing for World Book Day in many ways – so many we decided to create a news article to share all the information in one place!

In the whole school assembly on Monday 2nd March, Head of the English department, Ms Warrington launched the activities for Thursday for World Book Day. They include:

• Dressing up as your favourite book character
• Taking part in the tutor quiz based on assembly and famous book characters
• Donating 50p to charity and getting your face glitter face painted
• Join the trail! follow a set of clues and be in with a chance to win prizes

Teachers talked about their favourite books, read an excerpt from them and shared how they were inspired – either when they were a child or more recently:

• Mr Minor talked about ‘The Phrophet’ by Kahlil Gibran.
• Ms Fu told students that she really enjoyed ‘Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine’ by Gail Honeyman.
• Ms James reminisced about her love of reading ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Bronte as a child and how she still enjoys revisiting the book now.
• Mr Carter, said he loved all the Roald Dahl books, and as a tall teenager particularly identified with ‘The BFG’.
• Mr McPherson read the poem, ‘Don’t Quit’ by John Greenleaf Whittier and said it helped him when he was first starting out in his career.
• Ms Willard, talked about the joy of reading about Jo March in ‘Little Women’ by Louisa May Alcott when she was growing up.
• Mr Shoebridge, read from ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and talked about the character Atticus Finch being an inspirational role model.

Shakespeare Shoot Out on the Muga

50p to enter. Answer 3 book related questions and win the opportunity to take 3 penalties against Mr Jones. All names will go into a raffle to be drawn out later.

Treasure Trail

Find hidden quotes and clues during lunchtime, starting in the LRC, win a prize if you get find all ten clues!

Glitter face painting

In the hall at lunchtime – 50p for glitter or face jewels.

Design a book cover competition

Students can design a book cover for their favourite book or a book they are studying. The deadline to submit all book designs is Friday 20th March and they need to be submitted to Mrs Ridsdale and Mrs Evans in the LRC.
