“Each of us must work for their own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity”. Marie Curie

In PSRE (a subject which incorporates Personal Social Citizenship and Health Education alongside Religious Education), our students develop confidence, awareness and independence through our innovative curriculum and an ethos of Enjoy Respect Achieve.

Enjoy

The PSRE curriculum at Bohunt School Worthing is designed to imbue in our students the qualities and attributes young people need to thrive as individuals, family members and responsible global citizens.  All students will leave Bohunt School Worthing as active, informed and responsible citizens – who are willing and able to take responsibility for themselves and their communities and are passionate about the contribution they can make to the political process and society as a whole.

Respect

Through the study of PSRE our students develop respect, cultural and religious understanding and empathy.  Religious Education allows students the opportunity to explore, and engage with, life’s ultimate questions – considering their own opinions towards topics as well as a range of religious perspectives. We provide students with the skills required to become reflective and critical thinkers. We promote respect for the right of others to hold beliefs different from our own, show an understanding of the influence of religion on society and an appreciation and understanding of different cultures, religions and traditions.

Achieve

PSRE prepares students to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe, secure and confident enough to fulfil their academic potential.

PSRE at KS3

PSRE at KS3 is thought provoking, engaging and gives students an insight and appreciation of the diverse world in which they live. Students begin Year 7 by examining the importance of the concept of learning about different world religions. During the year students learn about Christianity, Sikhism and Islam; each religion’s key beliefs and the contributions each has made to humanity past and present. Alongside this Religious Education students learn about key PSHE issues including online safety, positive body image, bullying, the dangers of alcohol abuse, smoking and friendship. In Year 8 students learn about Buddhism, the main religions practised by the people Worthing, British Values, dealing with stress, living a healthy lifestyle and managing money.

PSRE at KS4

In Years 9-11 students learn about Hinduism as well as a wide range of PSHE and ethical issues including healthy relationships, the influence of the media on society, drugs awareness, crime and punishment, poverty, medical ethics, mental health awareness and exam preparation techniques. Each topic provides students with the opportunity to develop key skills over time such as critical thinking, decision making, debate and evaluation. Our students will leave Bohunt School Worthing with the knowledge, SMSC development, skills, and confidence to enable them, as game-changers, to drive change and to make a positive contribution to a society in which differences and diversity are celebrated.
