The science department at Bohunt Worthing is an enthusiastic and dynamic team. We strive to ensure that science plays an integral role in the education of our students in a world that is constantly changing with scientific and technological advances.

Skills that students need to be successful in the world are crucial in science: team work; curiosity, evaluation skills and trial and error. These skills are embedded throughout science lessons at Bohunt Worthing and are further evidenced in our key stage 3 science club.  

Key Stage 3

Students in year 7 and 8 follow a course that closely mirrors the national curriculum:

Students have 4 science lessons a week. Practical skills are at the forefront of key stage 3 science lessons, alongside the principle of precise learning which aims to equip students with models that they can use to explain the scientific world. Stop motion animation, visual media and electronic resources available via iPads support this aim. 

Key Stage 4: 

We follow the GCSE AQA Science Specifications for Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) and Biology (8461), Chemistry (8462) and Physics (8463). Students are taught the fundamentals of GCSE Science in Year 9 and a decision is made in Year 10 whether a student should sit the Combined Science (worth 2 GCSEs) or Separate Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics – each an individual GCSE). Practical skills and applying our understanding are again at the forefront of our teaching practice, reflecting the demands of the GCSE where at least 15% of each paper will be based on practical skills.

All examinations take place in the Summer of Year 11 so it is important to begin revision at the start of the GCSE and maintain this throughout KS4. A topic list for the GCSE is as follows:
